NorthStar Bets Casino Review: Canadian-Owned, Playtech-Only, and Backed by a Troubled Parent

NorthStar Bets markets itself as Ontario's Canadian-owned casino. We read its lobby, terms and public filings to see what that actually buys a player, and what the parent company's 2026 trading halt means.

Our verdict

NorthStar Bets is a legitimate, AGCO-registered Ontario casino with a phone line that answers around the clock and a few exclusive tables, but the lobby leans on one software house and the parent company has been under a securities trading halt since May 2026. It suits Ontario players who want a local brand and Interac banking. It is hard to recommend over larger operators for anyone who wants range.

What works

  • Holds an Ontario registration (AGCO OPIG1226485) and shows ConnexOntario help on its pages
  • Exclusive NorthStar-branded tables, including Elite Blackjack, in the live section
  • Toll-free phone support reported as open 24 hours a day
  • Interac e-Transfer deposits and withdrawals, with no NorthStar fee on deposits
  • Large reported library of roughly 2,900 titles plus 115 live tables

What does not

  • Slots and live tables lean heavily on Playtech, so the lobby feels narrow
  • Parent NorthStar Gaming Holdings is under an OSC cease trade order since May 2026
  • Minimum deposit is reported as C$20, double the figure on some listings
  • Mastercard cannot receive withdrawals, so card players have fewer exit routes
  • Published details on bonus terms are thin because Ontario limits bonus advertising

NorthStar Bets sells one idea above all others: it is the Ontario casino with a Canadian owner. Its own slots page says it is "a proudly Canadian-owned brand." Whether that is worth anything to a player depends on what else the site offers, and on how the company behind it is doing. We went through the lobby, the terms and the public record to find out. We did not run a long deposit-and-cash-out test for this piece, so what follows rests on what NorthStar publishes and what independent sources report.

Only people physically in Ontario and aged 19 or over can play for real money. If that is not you, this is not your casino.

What the Canadian-owned pitch actually gives you

Ownership does not change the games. What it changes is the shape of the shop. The lobby opens with curated shelves such as NorthStar Picks and Ontario Favourites rather than a wall of provider logos, and the live section carries tables that exist only here. The clearest example is NorthStar Elite Blackjack, which the site describes as an exclusive branded table with a premium, high-limit feel.

Those exclusives are a real point in its favour. The big global brands rarely build tables for one province. But they are a handful of tables, not a reason to move house.

One software house, many titles

Third-party counts put the library near 2,950 titles with 115 live tables, though casinos.com lists a much smaller 600-plus figure, so treat the exact number with care. What both agree on is where the games come from. The site's own text says its slots come from Playtech, and the casinos.com listing says Playtech is the only studio behind its slots and live casino.

Playtech has strengths. The progressive jackpot shelf is well stocked, with the Age of Gods series named on the slots page, and there is a Fire Blaze Jackpots section. But if you like to hop between studios, you will run out of variety long before you run out of titles. The big Ontario rivals mix a dozen or more suppliers.

Banking: simple, with a C$20 floor

The assigned listing for this review mentioned deposits from C$10. The only detailed banking source we found, sportsbettinginontario.ca, says C$20 per transaction on every method, with no NorthStar fee. Another review lists a C$10 minimum but tied it to the sportsbook, not the casino. We would plan on C$20 and confirm it in the cashier.

For withdrawals, that same source reports Interac e-Transfer, Visa and PayPal, a C$20 minimum, no maximum set by NorthStar, and approval "within a few hours, 24 hours at most." Extra checks can add up to 72 hours and large sums over C$10,000 can take longer. Mastercard cannot receive payouts. Casinos.com, meanwhile, shows withdrawal times of one day, four days and five working days on different parts of one page. That inconsistency is a reason to ask support for the current figure before you deposit.

The parent company problem

In May 2026 the Ontario Securities Commission issued a failure-to-file cease trade order against NorthStar Gaming Holdings, the listed parent. According to Yogonet's report, the company had not filed audited 2025 accounts after its auditor withdrew an earlier report, citing doubts about controls tied to a key vendor's player account software. NorthStar disputes the auditor's position, and the report states there is no allegation of impropriety. The order halts trading in the shares. It does not stop the casino, which the report says continues to take wagers.

We found no sign that the Ontario registration has been suspended. Ontario operators must hold player funds separately from operating money, which is the normal safeguard. Still, a parent with an open audit dispute and earlier cash-flow worries is a fact a cautious player should weigh, and it is the main reason this review does not score higher. Check the OSC order list and the AGCO register yourself before you deposit.

Terms, bonuses and the paperwork

The terms page runs to numbered clauses issued by NorthStar Gaming (Ontario) and refers to separate privacy and responsible gaming policies. Ontario rules restrict bonus advertising, so the public pages say little beyond the headline banner for a 100% first-deposit match. The wagering requirement and expiry sit in the cashier. We would not accept any match offer without reading them first, and we would never treat a bonus as a way to win money.

On a phone

There is a native app, and third-party figures show ratings of 3.5 from 403 reviews on the App Store and 3.4 from 227 on Google Play. Those are middling scores. The mobile site mirrors the desktop shelves, with Top New Games at 24 titles and a progressive jackpot ticker above it.

Responsible gambling

The footer carries ConnexOntario's line, 1-866-531-2600, and a link to a complaints process. Set deposit limits before your first deposit, treat the money as the cost of entertainment, and stop if play stops being fun. Nothing here is financial advice.

Who should play here

Choose NorthStar Bets if you are in Ontario, like Playtech progressives, want phone support at any hour and prefer a Canadian brand. Skip it if you want studio variety, if you are uneasy about the parent's audit dispute, or if you expect the C$10 entry point some listings show. A 6.4 reflects a sound licence and good support held back by a narrow lobby and a corporate cloud.
